‘Dream’ Act Front and Center

Posted by Joshua Price on September 20, 2007

Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-Illinois) so-called “Dream Act” is now front and center as an amendment attached to the defense spending bill being debated in the Senate.

The Dream Act, in its current form, proposes granting a path to citizenship for illegal aliens who are students in this country, have been here for at least 5 years, are high school graduates, and have completed two years of college or military service.

According to an article in The Washington Times today, Sen. Durbin has actually dropped two parts of his original amendment: ” a mandate for in-state tuition rates and is promising to impose an age limit to cut the number of people who would be eligible.”

This amendment must be defeated. Why should the illegal aliens, high school students, college students, or not, be granted amnesty simply for reaping the benefits of our system?

Now perhaps I would give this another look if the requirement was only military service. At least then the illegal has demonstrated an action for our country as opposed to just receiving the benefits that they shouldn’t be allowed to get. Why are illegals automatically entitled to public education? Answer: liberals, globalism and, internationalists who want to see the destruction of America’s sovereignty.

We must follow this as closely as we did with Bush’s immigration reform attempt earlier this year.
